IHN Virus Recovery

Roosna-Allik Fish Farm / Järvamaa, Estonia

Challenge
IHN virus (Infectious Haematopoietic Necrosis) detected on-site — a notifiable disease with no veterinary cure.

Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Application Methods
Bioful Aqua added to feed daily.
Fish bathed in Bioful Aqua solution for 15–30 minutes.
Duration
November 2018 — May 2019
Result
Approximately 1,000 fish lost out of 30,000 (3.3% mortality). Mortality ceased by mid-January 2019. Veterinary Board confirmed the farm was virus-free by May 2019.

After the IHN virus was detected on our farm, we started adding Bioful to the feed and bathing the fish in Bioful solution. Within two months, mortality stopped. Retesting confirmed the virus was no longer active in the treated pool.

Hatchery Survival

Müezzinoğlu Hatchery / Muğla, Türkiye

Challenge
Inconsistent hatch rates and high early larval mortality during the spring spawning season.
Species
European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)
Application Methods
Bioful Aqua egg bath at 1 L per 150 L water for 10–30 minutes prior to incubation.
Duration
March 2023 — June 2023 (one full spawning cycle)
Result
Hatchability improved by ~14% versus the previous season. Stronger, more uniform larvae, with reduced fungal load on egg surfaces.

Our hatch rates have always been the bottleneck of the season. The egg bath was simple to add to our existing protocol — and the larvae were visibly stronger going into first feeding.

Transport Stress

Lakeside Aqua Co-op / Mazury, Poland

Challenge
High post-transport mortality and slow appetite recovery when moving fingerlings between sites in summer.
Species
Rainbow trout fingerlings (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
Application Methods
Bioful Aqua dosed at 1 L per 1,000 L in transport tanks before loading.
Duration
June 2024 — September 2024 across 18 transport runs
Result
Post-transport mortality dropped from a typical 4–6% to under 1%. Fingerlings resumed feeding within 24 hours of arrival on average.

Summer moves used to be the worst week of the year for losses. Adding Bioful to the transport tanks changed that — fish arrived calmer and started feeding the next morning.
